Who We Are

If you’re looking for a fresh new beginning in your life…

If you’re looking for a church to help you keep growing in your faith and service to Jesus…

We would love to have you come join us for worship at Community Covenant Church. When you arrive you’ll find a relaxed, friendly and accepting atmosphere.

We have been in Kirkwood since 1974 and in our present building since 1982. Although there is a newness and freshness to this very contemporary church, our history ties us to a long-established denomination: The Evangelical Covenant Church. The Covenant has its roots in historical Christianity as it emerged in the Protestant Reformation and in the great spiritual awakenings of the nineteenth century in Sweden.

OUR MISSION

We exist as a church to worship God, serve others and share the Word of Jesus Christ in love. We believe that all of us are to be loving, accepting, willing and faithful servants. We are to use our God-given strengths, skills and resources to create a community that encourages growth, strengthens disciples, builds personal connections, and reaches out and gets involved.

Our core beliefs can be summarized in the following statements:

  • We believe in the Holy Scriptures, namely the Old and the New Testament, as the Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct. The Word of God is living and powerful and is itself supreme over every interpretation of it, including our own.
  •  We believe in One God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in Jesus Christ as fully human and fully divine.
  • We believe in the necessity of new life in Jesus Christ, God’s Son. This occurs when God’s Word, by the power of the Holy Spirit, convicts persons of their sinfulness and when they respond with confession and repentance, receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of their lives.
  • We believe in the Holy Spirit who lives in all believers and who
gives spiritual gifts to all believers as he chooses, for the purpose of empowering the Church to honor Jesus Christ.
  • We believe in the Church as a fellowship of Christians whom God
Himself has called together to participate in Christ’s mission to the world.
  • We believe in the reality of freedom in Christ; freedom from the power of sin and freedom to respond to God, both as individuals and as a Body, by the guidance of his Word and by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are free to hold, discuss, and respect differing perspectives on those doctrinal matters about which God’s Word is not clearly definitive.
  • We believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ to take believers home to heaven.
